Grebeg Maulid di Jember: Warga Pondok Panili Arak 20 Gunungan!

Pondok Panili residents celebrated Maulid by parading with 20 harvests, Friday (5/9/2025). A festive atmosphere enveloped Pondok Panili, Talangsari Village, Kaliwates District, Jember Regency, on Friday (5/9/2025). Hundreds of local residents held the tradition of Grebeg Maulid to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW, which falls on the 12th of Rabiul Awal 1447 Hijriah. The theme “After Dark Comes Light” was carried by the residents, displaying a parade of 20 harvests and snacks from local products. The procession was opened by zafin dancers dressed in all black. According to Pondok Pesantren Al-Ghofilin Custodian, Baiquni Purnomo, the black costume has a symbolic meaning. “The philosophy is to dispel darkness from within the heart, home, village, and beyond the village,” said the man affectionately known as Gus Baiqun. Following the dancers, a line of residents dressed in white followed. White attire is interpreted as a prayer for the Pondok Panili community to be more enthusiastic in worship, learning, and social interaction. “So it is hoped that it will bring goodness to our village,” he added. Gus Baiqun emphasized that Grebeg Maulid is an expression of gratitude from the people of Pondok Panili for the birth of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. He also mentioned a hadith about the Prophet’s uncle, Abu Lahab, receiving relief from the torment of hell every Monday because he was delighted at the birth of Muhammad SAW, although he died as a disbeliever. “Of course, we Muslims, the followers of the Prophet, by expressing gratitude for the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW, are more entitled to hope for the intercession of the Prophet,” he concluded.
