President Prabowo Subianto has conveyed his belief in Indonesia’s potential to achieve net-zero carbon emissions as planned, positioning the nation as a pioneer in reaching this environmental milestone. Speaking during a virtual conference on the launch of renewable energy projects and the expansion of oil production in East Java, Prabowo underscored Indonesia’s capacity to efficiently produce energy and cut down on expensive logistics chains.
He stressed the critical role of energy independence in Indonesia’s quest for national sovereignty, outlining the government’s strategy of initiating 55 new renewable energy initiatives, including geothermal power plants, to provide clean, dependable, and effective energy solutions throughout the vast archipelago.
President Prabowo commended the collaborative efforts of various ministries, regulatory bodies, and energy corporations like Medco Energi and ExxonMobil in backing Indonesia’s shift towards renewable energy. While acknowledging the abundant oil and gas reserves in the country, he highlighted the significance of renewable sources, particularly solar power, in ensuring energy self-reliance for communities nationwide.
