Proven Benefits of Free Nutritious Meals on Children’s Concentration

The Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program has been proven to significantly improve children’s concentration levels, as evidenced by short-term memory tests. Experts believe that this enhancement in concentration can lead to increased motivation for learning among students. Research conducted in Aceh revealed that students who received Free Nutritious Meals showed a notable increase in concentration, which can potentially lead to better educational outcomes and a stronger desire to learn. Similarly, a study conducted by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) showed that the MBG program had positive effects on learning focus and cognitive performance among students in Bogor and Papua, especially those who did not have breakfast. At State Vocational School 6 (SMK Negeri 6) in Medan, the MBG program was found to significantly improve attendance motivation and concentration in class. Concentration is closely related to attention and the brain’s ability to process stimuli, making it a crucial factor in brain development during childhood. Factors that can impact concentration include learning motivation, nutritional intake, psychological well-being, and physiological conditions like sleep quality, noise levels, and the learning environment. Key nutrients like protein, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids are essential for brain development and cognitive function, particularly memory. The MBG Program aims to address children’s nutritional needs for both physical growth and cognitive development. Despite challenges such as unhealthy eating habits and limited access to nutritious food in some regions, experts believe that the program will have lasting benefits for future generations and society as a whole.
