President Prabowo Subianto from Indonesia made a visit to Saudi Arabia on July 2–3, 2025, with the aim of strengthening cooperation to improve services for Indonesian pilgrims during their Hajj and Umrah journeys. The meeting with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah focused on expressing gratitude for the Saudi government’s dedication to serving pilgrims from various countries, including Indonesia.
During the meeting, discussions revolved around the cooperation between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia to ensure the safety and comfort of Indonesian pilgrims throughout their religious activities. Both parties agreed to enhance the quality of services in the upcoming Hajj seasons, emphasizing a commitment to providing a seamless pilgrimage experience.
Apart from matters related to Hajj, strategic agreements were also made to strengthen bilateral relations. The Saudi–Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, co-chaired by the Crown Prince and President Prabowo, focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and technology. Bilateral trade between the two countries has been substantial, reaching around USD 31.5 billion in the last five years.
Furthermore, agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to boost private sector investment, amounting to approximately USD 27 billion. These investments are anticipated to generate job opportunities in Indonesia, particularly in energy, industrial development, and sustainable technology sectors.
The emphasis was also placed on cooperation in the health sector to address the medical requirements of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Discussions included the development of pharmaceutical and vaccine industries, as well as enhancing the capacity of health workers.
On an international level, both President Prabowo and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated their dedication to promoting peaceful conflict resolutions in the region. They voiced their support for a two-state solution for Palestine and emphasized the role of international humanitarian organizations in fostering peace and stability.
The visit showcased the growing partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia across various fields, illustrating their joint efforts to improve services for Indonesian pilgrims and deepen cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
